A team's last chance at a "dress rehearsal" before the start of the regular season in the NFL is the final preseason game. That's why it's standard practice for teams to get their starters some game action before the season officially begins.

But it doesn't look like the New Orleans Saints will achieve it with Derek Carr as their quarterback.

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen announced during a recent press conference that Derek Carr would not participate in Sunday night's preseason finale against the Houston Texans.

Nick Underhill, who covers the New Orleans Saints, reported that "Dennis Allen stated on Twitter that Derek Carr will not play this week."

It's odd that the Saints would make such a move, considering that Carr is still getting to know the team and the playbook.

Carr played in the Saints' lone preseason game this year, a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in which he completed 6 of 8 passes for 70 yards and a score. This means Carr won't receive any game action until just before the season begins.
